Commonly known as an environmental or pollutant tax, this excise duty targets goods or objects that contribute to pollution. In Nagaland, this tax payment is naturally integrated into the efforts to reduce environmental impact and promote cleaner transportation options.
In a bid to discourage the operation of older vehicles with heightened emission levels, Green Tax for car, bikes, and other vehicles was introduced. These older models tend to release a considerable amount of pollutants into the environment. TO address this concern, the imposition of Green Tax aims to incentivize owners to adopt cleaner and more environmentally friendly allernatives.
Green Tax is primarily applicable to diesel and petrol cars or bikes. if you own an electric or CNG vehicle, you are exempt from this tax. both personal and commercial variants of vehicles are subject to this tax.
Green tax applies to commercial vehicles if they are more than 8 years old.
For personal vehicles, including bikes and cars, Green Tax is ievied if the vehicle is older than 15 years.
Keep in mind that Green Tax is usually charged as a percentage of state's road tax this tax is payable when renewing the registration certificate (RC) or vehicle's registration.
